book blurb:
catch 22

funniest book i’ve ever read. writing style and non-linear narrative made it hard to get into, but once i dove in it was an amusing and interesting story. the absurd and dark humor related to yossarrian’s mission to go home kept me turning the pages. favorite character had to be milo. the supreme capitalist, milo’s ambitions were so twisted that he was no longer on any side. using both the germans and the americans for his own purposes just seemed so truly evil. chapter entitled ‘the eternal city’ really brings everything home by illuminating just how fucked war is. highly recommended for anyone interested in world war two or anyone looking for comic relief.

book blurb:
scott pilgrim volume 2

it’s been a few weeks since i finished reading this. should have written my blurb a lot sooner so that it was still fresh in my mind. the story of scott pilgrim definitely took a fantastic new turn in this volume. i loved the flashbacks and getting to know about scott’s past. the video game references and allusions really are the icing on the cake of a well told story with relatable characters and a great illustrated style. i’ve just purchased the remaining 4 volumes and am looking forward to finishing the series.

book blurb:
fahrenheit 451

a book that has been on my “to read” list since middle school. i remember several friends talking about how great it was, and now i have the pleasure to agree with them. the descriptive prose of ray bradbury had me captivated from page one. parts of the world that bradbury creates don’t seem so far-fetched from the world we live in today. with millions of people placated by the faint glow of television it is not difficult to relate to montag’s disdain for such a brainless activity. i’m not severe enough to refuse the ownership of a tv outright, but lately my wife and i have found reading time to be more enjoyable than movie time.

book blurb:
scott pilgrim volume 1

after wanting to plunge into this series for so long I was fortunate to receive the first volume as a surprise secret santa gift! the art style, tone, and video game related content all do an exemplary job of bringing me into the world of scott pilgrim. while the series looks aimed at a younger crowd the subject matter is better appreciated by a more mature reader. looking forward to watching the movie version (i’ve heard nothing but good things) but i definitely plan on finishing the entire series (6 volumes total) before doing so. volume 2 is on my shelf waiting to be read, and I’m eager with anticipation to see scott battle his way to victory in the heart of ramona flowers.

book blurb:
akira volume 1

after thoroughly enjoying the anime for so long i’ve finally taken the plunge into the source material. the first of six volumes, this manga is much more in depth and lush with both fantastic character and image detail. one aspect that stands out is just how much everyone seems to be doped up at all times, a fact that seemed to be hinted at but ultimately glazed over in the movie version. gratuitous amounts of “TETSUOOOO” and “KANNEDAAA” keep the reader in sharp focus. looking forward to reading the five succeeding volumes, but unfortunately that will have to wait as my current reading backlog is bad enough as it is.
